Bollywood reacts to Shilpa-Richard's kissing act
Here is what Bollywood actors, actresses have to say on Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere's kissing act.
Shilpa Shetty
I don't think Richard Gere did anything wrong at all. It was an impromptu act he did on stage for the audience entertainment. Besides the same afternoon I was telling him that how I loved his dance in the film, Shall We Dance, and it was a gesture he did only for sheer entertainment. He has called me and apologised to me and the Indian media and the people of India if he has offended their sensibilities.
I don't think we have done anything wrong. It is really sad that the issue for which the two of us came together that was AIDS was totally sidelined and this frivolous issue has got prominence. People are forgetting the work Richard Gere has done for AIDS in India. He has been coming to the country for the last 10 years for promoting awareness of the disease. For whatever did on stage, remember he is a foreigner and one should expect him to behave like an Indian. I am not trying to defend him but I am only standing for the right and not the wrong. I don't want the Indian media and Indians to look foolish to the outside world.
Mahesh Bhatt
When the mother of civilisation gets obsessed with trivia you can be sure doom is round the corner.
Jackie Shroff
All I can say is that emotions have to be kept in check and from all quarters. Whether it was Shilpa Shetty and Richard or for that matter those who are protesting over the issue and burning effigies of the two actors.
Celina Jaitley
If she does not have an objection why others should be bothered about it. She is above 18, she is grown up and knows what she is doing. I really wonder what has happened to the world's biggest democracy where citizen has the right to expression and this reaction from fundamentalists groups is really uncalled for.
